Effin Country Music
Now hold on just a cotton-picking minute. Before I get bombarded with negative comments, I love country music. I moved to Nashville just to further my music career (not really). This hopefully grabbing title is what I would text my wife every time a country song would make me cry while driving my car.
Let me back up and set the stage a bit. I took a job in Nashville and needed to start work fairly quickly. Our house out of state had not sold yet, and my kids were in school. There was a 4 month period where I was living by myself in an apartment – just working and really missing my family. It didn’t take long for my 2hr commute round trip listening to country radio to hit me right in the tear ducts. I remember the 1st song that would make me cry every time it played (and it played a LOT) – Thomas Rhett’s “Die a Happy Man.” It reminded me so much of my wife that the tears would start flowing. Then, I’d text her with that phrase, “Effin Country Music.” The 1st one or two times needed explanation, but she quickly understood. I believe she secretly like me crying to country music because she admittedly doesn’t care for country.
Fast forward almost 2 years, and there are still those songs that squeeze water out of the corners of my eyes. It happens much less often, but I think that this type of music touches me easily in the emotional areas. So hopefully, you now understand a little more about why I would title a post in such a way. I have grown up enough to allow my feelings to flow forth from my eyes.
